The TPSF - Matching Grants Programme is made up of two separate sub-projects

Tanzania Business Development Scheme & Technical Innovation Applied Research Scheme. The programme ran from April 2008 to April 2011. An extension has been put in place to the end of 2011.

The Tanzania Business Development Scheme – TBDS

TBDS is designed to assist enterprises grow their businesses in a planned manner. The programme reimbursed 50% of agreed development costs. From April 2011, an extension will concentrate on three priority sectors: Food Processing, Horticulture and Tourism.

Technical Innovation and Applied Research Scheme - TIAS

TIAS supports technical training courses with NACTE registered institutes. Fourteen feasibility studies have been funded. TIAS funds (US$10M) have been fully allocated to approved programmes in nine institutes

The matching grant mechanism is a proven technique in stimulating change:

Financial support reduces the perceived risk of investing in business development, thereby encouraging firms to embark on growth initiatives. The commitment by the firm is significant by virtue of their full up-front contribution to the cost.

TBDS achieves and surpasses significant Benchmarks and Targets

TBDS approved over 787 grants in excess of US$5 million. Firms recorded significant successes in market penetration and competitivity. The initial programmme came to a close in April 2011. An extension has been put in place concentrating on three priority sectors - Food Processing, Horticulture and Tourism.
